Short film

for

Casa Banco

in

2021

Casa Banco has made the same rush-seat chair near Paredes since 1931. Their short film has no product shots: only a man’s shadow on a plaster wall, the chair beside him, and the evening sun moving across until the chair stands there alone.

The same chair since 1931

Casa Banco has made one rush-seat chair near Paredes for three generations, and they were tired of seeing it styled in other people’s kitchens. They asked for a short film about what a chair is for.

A shadow and a chair

We filmed against one plaster wall over a single evening, with the sun as the only lamp. A man’s shadow sits, leans, reaches and leaves; the chair stays where it was put. There are no product shots and no logo until the last frame.

“My father said a good chair should be fine on its own. Now there is a film of it.”

Manuel Banco, chairmaker at Casa Banco

After the screenings

The short played at two festivals in its first year. Orders for the chair doubled, most of them for one.
